Digital Preservation Policies
Kóot has 3 means of preserving its publications and they are the following:
- Institutional preservation, is carried out through the institutional repository of Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador, using DSpace, which is a software of choice for academic, non-profit and commercial organizations that create open digital repositories. DSpace preserves and enables easy and open access to all types of digital content, including text, images, moving images, mpegs, and data sets.
- Long-term preservation, Kóot journal articles are preserved in Central American Journals Online (CAMJOL), which is a service to provide online publications of Central American journals based on the Open Journal System OJS journal management software.
- Long-term preservation, Kóot participates in the PKP-PN initiative that allows the deposit and preservation of its articles in LOCKSS: The Keepers Registry.
Kóot incorporates the CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe), LOCKSS and PKP Preservation Networks systems that allow libraries to preserve chosen electronic journals by regularly checking the registered publication websites for recently published content and archiving it for future preservation.
